CIVICUS is the Latin word for CITIZEN. A citizen belongs to a group or citizenship. They belong to a party of people assembled to promote sociability and communal activity pertaining to the life, welfare, and relations of all human beings in a community.

The Social Skills development through Language arts; reading and written language courses offer through CIVICUS Learning, Inc. are born out of a belief that all students need and deserve the chance to succeed socially and academically. Students require caring and disciplined mentors, who provide best practice strategies and curriculum, that assist them in quality thinking, speaking, and acting so they become effective communicators with others in their community.

The vision of CIVICUS Learning, Inc. is that all those in need will have the availability and access to basic social skills development education through language arts. The intended outcome of our coursework is to prepare students to be productive, successful, peace filled citizens within their chosen community.

CIVICUS Learning, Inc. offers students extra academic help and individual instruction they need in the areas of social skills development and Language Arts. Generally, a student is notified by their school if they are eligible for SES tutoring.

Where does CIVICUS Learning, Inc. offer services?
CLI is an online SES provider. Therefore our team offers services in a variety of settings, including:
  • Schools.
  • Public libraries.
  • Family homes.
  • Community centers.
The location of service is specific to the student’s need.
When does CIVICUS Learning, Inc. offer services?
CLI SES is offered anytime outside the hours of the regular school day and at the convenience of the student.
How often and how long will my child receive tutoring?
CLI course work is modularly designed so that a student may have several options throughout the week to complete the tutorials. Some example schedules are:

30 minutes three times a week for six weeks or,
60 minutes one time a week plus 30 minutes one time a week for six weeks or,
90 minutes one time a week for six weeks.
What is the track record for CIVICUS Learning, Inc. in raising student achievement?
To get on the Texas state SES list, CLI was required to demonstrate a track record of raising student achievement in reading and written language. Evidence of CLI success is noted through:
  • Results on tests developed by CLI and the state of California.
  • Satisfaction surveys of students and teachers.
  • Improved reading and writing skills as measured by work samples.
  • Improved engagement of students in the habit of writing as measured by quantity of writing samples.
  • Better writing task completion.
  • Written testimony by students and teachers.
Who will be instructing my child? What are their qualifications?
SES providers are not required to hire certified teachers. However, it is the practice of CLI that all of our course facilitators are highly qualified and trained educational professionals:
School Couselors, School Psychologists, School Social Workers, certificated teachers, etc.

What subject areas do your services address?
Social Skill Development through Language Arts; Reading and Writing.
Can instructors speak languages other than English?
Biligual, Spanish, instrutors are available as needed.
Can CIVICUS Learning, Inc. meet the learning needs of students with disabilities?
CLI is a SES provider and therefore may not meet the specific needs of a child requiring special services as defined by IDEA or through a 504. If your child has disabilities, please contact our office directly to be sure that CLI can accommodate those disabilities. Our goal is to remain consistent with your child's individualized educational program (IEP) or specialized services under Section 504.
Does CIVICUS Learning, Inc. measure student needs?
The CLI program is unique in that there are four assessent measurements used for determining a student’s formative and cumulitive academic growth. A pre-test, two progress reports, and a post test is incorporated into a student’s program. Instructional planning is based on the progress the student makes throughout the course.
How will the provider keep me informed of my child’s progress?
CLI will offer reporting to you, your child’s school, and the district about your child’s progress towards there goals as frequently as every two weeks. The reports include student TEKS goals, progress of the goals over time, and a final summary of success at the end of the course. Response to literature essays are available for review as well to illustrate writing progress over time.
What happens if I choose CIVICUS Learning, Inc., but the course does not help my child?
Your student’s course is monitored by a facilitator who is trained to identify barriers to learning. If the facilitator does not see that a student is moving forward with success they will alert you directly. If for some reason you are unhappy or not satisfied with the services of CLI please contact us and share your comments and conserns. You and your student are CLI customers and our goal is to provide quality service to you.
